Crowdfunding Platform

Back ideas you believe in, with clear goals and updates you can trust

The Crowdfunding Platform lets creators raise money for projects and lets backers find, fund and follow them. I designed the campaign page, the pledge flow, the creator’s campaign builder and the updates that keep backers informed after they pay.

01The problem

What needed solving

Crowdfunding asks people to pay now for something that may arrive months later, or not at all. Backers need reasons to trust a campaign, and creators, often doing this for the first time, need help telling their story and setting realistic goals. The design had to build trust on both sides and keep it after the money changed hands.

Who it’s for

  • Project creators

Need to set up a clear campaign, reach their goal and keep backers informed.

  • Campaign backers

Need to judge whether a project is credible and know what they get for their pledge.

  • Platform team

Need to review campaigns and handle disputes and refunds fairly.

02The main flow

From discovery to pledge

The moment in blue is the one the whole design is built around.

  2. 02

    Check goal and creator

  3. 03

    Choose a reward

  4. 04

    Pledge securely

  5. 05

    Follow project updates

03Structure

04Key decisions

Choices that shaped it

What I considered, what I chose, and why.

Decision 01

A required risks section

Campaign pages tend to show only the upside, so backers feel misled when delays happen.

Considered

Leaving risks as an optional part of the story for creators to include if they choose.

Chosen

I made a short risks and challenges section required on every campaign, placed just above the rewards, with prompts to help creators write it.

Why it works

It asks creators to be candid, which can feel uncomfortable, but it sets expectations early and makes later delays easier for backers to accept.

Decision 02

When you’re charged, in plain words

Backers often don’t know whether they are charged now or only if the goal is reached.

Considered

Explaining the funding model on a help page linked from the footer.

Chosen

I put a one-line explanation of when the card is charged next to the pledge button and again on the confirmation screen, matched to the campaign’s funding model.

Why it works

Surprises about money break trust faster than anything else, and the fix costs one line where the decision is made.

Decision 03

Live preview while building

Creators write long stories and only see how the page looks once it is live.

Considered

A separate preview mode reached at the end of the builder.

Chosen

I designed the builder with a live preview of the campaign page beside each step, including how it looks on a phone.

Why it works

Creators fix problems as they write rather than after launch, so the page backers see is closer to what the creator intended.

What I learned

  1. 01

In money products, the words next to the pay button carry more weight than any visual design.

  2. 02

Asking creators to name their risks felt like friction at first, but it is what makes the platform worth trusting.
