Briefly

Every meeting ends with clear decisions and owned action items

Briefly is a meeting platform that transcribes conversations, summarises them, picks out decisions and organises action items. It’s for teams who leave meetings unsure what was agreed. I designed and built the web app, from the meeting list to the meeting page.

01The problem

What needed solving

Most meetings end with notes no one reads, and the decisions and tasks get lost in an hour of transcript. A transcript is complete but too long to use, and a summary is quick but hard to trust without the source.

Who it’s for

  • Team leads

To know what was decided and who owns what, without rewatching the call.

  • People who missed it

A short catch-up they can trust, with a way to check the exact moment.

  • Project managers

Action items they can follow up on after the meeting ends.

02The main flow

From call to action items

The moment in blue is the one the whole design is built around.

04Key decisions

Choices that shaped it

What I considered, what I chose, and why.

Decision 01

Decisions above the summary

AI summaries tend to retell a meeting in order, which buries what was agreed somewhere in the middle.

Considered

A chronological summary of the conversation.

Chosen

The meeting page opens with decisions and action items, followed by a short summary and then the full transcript.

Why it works

People come back for outcomes, not the story. Putting outcomes first answers the main question at a glance.

Decision 02

Every point links to its source

People hesitate to act on an AI summary when they can’t check what was actually said.

Considered

A clean summary with no visible link to the transcript.

Chosen

Each decision and summary point links to the moment in the transcript it came from.

Why it works

Trust comes from being able to check. A link costs little space and turns a summary into something people can quote.

Decision 03

Action items outlive the meeting

Tasks buried in meeting notes are forgotten once the page is closed.

Considered

Action items as a bullet list inside each meeting’s notes.

Chosen

Action items live in their own list across meetings, each with an owner and a link back to the meeting it came from.

Why it works

Follow-up happens days later, away from the meeting page, so the tasks need a home of their own.

What I learned

  1. 01

AI output earns trust when people can check it against the source.

  2. 02

The order of a page is a product decision. Moving decisions to the top changed what the product was for.
