True-Match

Matchmaking built on verified profiles, curated daily matches and real conversation

True-Match is a trust-first matchmaking app with verified profiles, daily curated matches and in-chat activities. It is for people who want fewer, better matches and safer conversations. I designed the mobile app’s flows and interface for iOS and Android.

01The problem

What needed solving

Many dating apps reward endless swiping, which leads to fake profiles, shallow chats and fatigue. People want to know the other person is real and to have something to talk about. True-Match had to build trust from the first screen and keep conversations going past hello.

Who it’s for

  • Serious daters

Get fewer, better-suited matches instead of endless swiping.

  • Safety-conscious users

Know a profile is real before they start a chat.

  • Quieter users

Have easy ways to start and keep a conversation going.

02The main flow

From sign-up to first conversation

The moment in blue is the one the whole design is built around.
  1. 01

    Create a profile

  2. 02

    Verify your profile

  3. 03

    See today’s matches

  4. 04

    Start a chat

  5. 05

    Play an in-chat activity

03Structure

How True-Match is organised

Everything has one home. Getting this right first keeps every screen simpler.

04Key decisions

Choices that shaped it

What I considered, what I chose, and why.

Decision 01

Verification inside onboarding

When verification is optional and comes after sign-up, many people skip it, and the badge ends up meaning little.

Considered

Let people verify later from settings.

Chosen

Verification is a step in onboarding, framed as earning a verified badge that others will see.

Why it works

When verification is the norm, the badge becomes a real signal. It also sets the tone: this app takes trust seriously.

Decision 02

A daily set, not an endless feed

Unlimited swiping makes people judge fast and move on.

Considered

An infinite stack of profiles to swipe through.

Chosen

Each day brings a small curated set of matches, with more room given to each profile.

Why it works

A limit makes each match feel worth a look. People read profiles instead of flicking past them.

Decision 03

Activities inside the chat

Many matches stall after the first hello because neither person knows what to say next.

Considered

Suggested opening lines and nothing more.

Chosen

I designed in-chat activities that either person can start, giving both something to respond to.

Why it works

Doing something together is easier than small talk. It moves a match towards a real conversation.

05What’s inside

Key features

Verified profiles

A visible badge on profiles that have been verified.

Daily curated matches

A short, considered set of matches each day.

In-chat activities

Light activities to break the ice inside a chat.

Focused conversations

A calm chat that keeps attention on the person.

Safety tools

Report, block and privacy controls always within reach.

06Outcome

What was delivered

Delivered

  • An onboarding flow with profile set-up and verification
  • Daily matches, profile view and chat screens for iOS and Android
  • In-chat activity designs and their states
  • Trust signals and safety states across the app
  • Components and hand-off files for development

What I learned

  1. 01

Trust is built from small visible signals, repeated on every screen.

  2. 02

Limits can be a feature. Fewer matches made each one worth designing for.
